One of The Most Remarkable In Golf

Hogan completes one of the most remarkable years in golf history winning 5 of 6 tournaments, including 3 major championships. Dissatisfied with the quality of his equipment, he partners with long time friend Marvin Leonard and Pollard Simon to form the Ben Hogan Company.



Company Releases Its First Set of Irons

The company releases its first set of irons called the "Precision." Manufacturing is delayed when Mr. Hogan throws away the first production run at a cost of $100,000 dollars because the clubs failed to meet his exacting standards.

'54 Precision

Fleck is Victorious Using Hogan Irons

In his bid to become the first golfer to win five U.S. Open titles, Hogan is defeated in a playoff by unknown club professional Jack Fleck at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Fleck is victorious using Hogan irons.



Hogan Sells The Company

Hogan sells the company to American Machine and Foundry (AMF) but remains in charge as Chairman of the Board.

Introducing The "Speed Slot"

The Hogan Company introduces a new concept in driver design with the introduction of the aerodynamically efficient "Speed Slot."

Introduction of The "APEX"

Mr. Hogan often said that one of the most important components of a golf club is the shaft. Teaming with veteran club designer Gene Sheely, the company introduces the first constant weight taper-tip steel shaft called the "Apex." Softer in the long irons, firmer in the short irons, it is hailed as the most consistent shaft in golf.

Apex Immediately Embraced by Discerning Players

The company introduces the first Apex Iron and it is immediately embraced by discerning players around the world. Within a few years, the Apex becomes the most widely played iron on the PGA Tour.

'72 Apex Classic

The Number One Ball on Tour

Ben Hogan golf balls become the number one ball on tour earning more money and winning more tournaments than any other ball.

'80-'85 Director

It Was The Iron The Industry Said Could Never Be Built

It was the iron the industry said could never be built. The Ben Hogan Company introduces a perimeter weighted, cavity back, forged iron called the "Edge." The first, true, game improvement club, the Edge becomes the best selling iron in company history.

'89-'92 Edge Forged

Leonard Wins His First Major Using Ben Hogan Apex Irons

Justin Leonard wins his first major championship, the British Open at Royal Troon, using Ben Hogan Apex irons.

'96-'97 Edge GCD

The New Apex Iron

Clubmaking operations return to Ft. Worth as the Ben Hogan Company introduces the new Apex iron.

'98-'02 Apex

Introduction of The Apex Plus

Perimeter weighted forgiveness and forged iron feel return to the Hogan club line-up with the introduction of the Apex Plus.

'99 Apex Plus

The Edge Returns In The Form of The Apex Edge

The "Edge" returns in the form of the Apex Edge, the world's first two piece forged iron with a forged Carbon Steel frame and forged face. Hogan irons are now available to players of lesser ability who always wanted to experience the feel of Ben Hogan forged irons.

'01-'02 Apex Edge

Ben Hogan Introduces The Apex Edge Pro

The Apex Edge Pro is introduced to give players game improvement performance with a classic shape and style. The Edge Pro has a thicker top line than the Apex Plus, a wider sole, and a lower center of gravity.

2002 Edge Pro

The Edge C·F·T is Hailed A Leader

The Edge C·F·T with its unique Compression Forged Titanium face is hailed as a leader in game improvement iron design. A new 50th aniversary Apex iron and the Riveria and Carnoustie wedge lines are introduced.

2003 Edge C·F·T

Callaway Golf Aquires Ben Hogan Golf

In 2004, Callaway Golf purchases the Ben Hogan brand, The Ben Hogan Golf Company becomes part of the Callaway Golf Company family of products.
